About KCWC
Who We Are
The
Kensington Chelsea Women's Club (KCWC) is a non profit Amenity Society run by its members as volunteers working to foster friendship and interaction amongst women of all ages and international backgrounds living in London and its surrounding areas. Together our members enjoy a varied programme of activities and events designed to introduce them to the culture of London and the rich heritage of Britain, all while making friends with one another through these shared experiences.
Our name simply reflects the fact that KCWC was founded in 1983 in a café in Kensington by a group of women living in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. However, we extend our welcome to any interested women wherever they live, be it in any of the numerous London postcodes, outlying suburbs and even overseas. We have at present over 1300 members from 46 countries and cultures including native Londoners. Consequently, our programmes appeal not only to newcomers, but also to those who have lived in England for many years. Be assured that we make the welcoming of new members a top priority, so please don't let our member numbers overwhelm you. On the contrary, the variety and diversity of our membership ensure you will find many who share your own individual interests. If you are new to London as well, you'll gain insights from other women who understand the transition in moving to this wonderful city you too will soon call home.
KCWC Activities
Our volunteers are busy creative women who remarkably run at any given time in excess of thirty Activity Areas for our membership. We are delighted to encourage existing and new members to become involved in the on-going Activities of KCWC and welcome suggestions as to new Activity Areas we can introduce and explore. Currently we offer classes in Art History, Antiques and Decorative Arts, British History, Language Conversation Groups, Book Clubs, Bridge and Cooking, to name only a few. We have New and Expectant Mums, Toddler and Parenting Groups, Exercise Classes and Spiritual Study. Club trips may visit special art exhibitions or world famous stately homes while our Travel Group explores destinations further afield in both day and overnight trips. Understanding that many of our members are working women, we also offer evening Activities such as Theatre, Opera Appreciation, Wine, and Evening Book Group as well as Professional Forum – a chance for our women to network while exploring topical issues. Our Activities are offered to all our members on a first come first served enrolment and may require a minimal registration fee with many being “Under a Tenner!”
We also are delighted to host one or two Special Events in our Club year such as excursions to Henley, Ascot or Charity Fund Raising occasions.
Contributing to our Community
In addition to our social and educational activities, KCWC supports local charities in our community. Unique fund raising events are organized each year and the Club is proud of the contributions, both financial and in volunteer time, our members make in sharing their expertise and talents with local groups in need. Our Charity Connections department will be pleased to provide you with any information about volunteer work in which our members are involved in the wider London community.
General Meeting
KCWC sponsors a monthly General Meeting as a gathering place for our members and guests. These take place 10 times a year between September and June at various locations throughout London. Eight of these meetings host an interesting speaker addressing Current Affairs, the Arts, Politics or Sport. KCWC has been privileged to host many prominent authors, dignitaries and news makers and we continue to pride ourselves on the calibre of speaker we attract to our meetings. In addition, our Activity Leaders are present to answer questions or to take your registration for any Activity or Special Event listed in our newsletter or on our website that sparked your interest. You'll also find products created by many of our talented members for sale in Member Showcases to browse through while you enjoy your coffee with friends and make new ones in our meeting's Social Hour.
Club Newsletter and Website
A monthly Newsletter is mailed to our membership. It informs them of the Activities sponsored by KCWC for our members in addition to a Calendar and Bulletin Board highlighting general dates of interest in the London community. We publicize special offers from Member Benefit companies who extend exclusive discounts to our members and feature a Corporate and Classified Advertising section where our membership can promote their own goods and services for sale.
Our KCWC Website is a complete on line reference resource featuring both a public and private Members Only section where access is only granted by a member password. The latter includes our Membership Directory, Activity and Event listings, a monthly Club Calendar, volunteer opportunities in the community, and again an advertising page. News bulletins we believe of interest to our membership involving Club Activities or local events and special offers are sent in our monthly eNews internet communication.
