Art Double Acts: Louise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin – An Unlikely Friendship

18 November, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Contemporary Art invites you to a Zoom talk led by art historian Marie-Anne Mancio exploring the artistic collaboration of Louise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin. Bourgeois enjoyed a career spanning eight decades (1930s-2010) during which she was known for large scale sculptures and installations deriving inspiration from her childhood memories of abandonment. Not an artist an arachnophobe would purchase, Bourgeois is remembered for her fascination with the spider as a subject in her art meant to evoke both predator and protector (an industrious repairer.) Shortly before her death, Bourgeois collaborated with Tracey Emin, another contemporary art trailblazer, who shared her passion for works exploring sexuality and intimacy. Our Tea Time Zoom talk will explore this creative relationship.

Marie-Anne Mancio has a doctorate in contemporary art. Now a freelance art historian, she has lectured for Dulwich Picture Gallery, Slade, Tate, City Lit and is an approved lecturer of the Arts Society. She also writes historical fiction and is currently writing a thriller about Caravaggio. Join us as she spins a tale of artistic intrigue for KCWC.
