Until recently, Gustave Caillebotte’s role as collector and supporter of his Impressionist colleagues overshadowed the significance of his own unique and audacious work. In this presentation Jo Rhymer will look closely at a selection of Caillebotte’s outstanding paintings to consider how his representations of modern life – particularly in respect to masculinity – provide fascinating insights into 19th century life in Paris.
