Christ Church, Southgate was built in 1862 to accommodate a growing community in the area after the Weld Chapel, the original church on this site. The new building, designed by George Gilbert Scott, included Pre-Raphaelite stained glass windows supplied by the Morris firm and incorporating the work of Burne-Jones, Rossetti, and Morris himself.
Cricket fans will be delighted with the interesting cricketing history associated with the parish owing to the Walker family who lived in the area for 141 years. The Walker brothers, of which there were seven, founded the Southgate Cricket Club in 1855 and were instrumental in establishing Lords in 1877.
