Edwardian Splendour: Evening Visit with Lecture at the Kings Gallery, Buckingham Palace

24 April @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

405360

Even as Prince of Wales, HM King Edward VII, alongside his beautiful Danish consort Alexandra, gave his name to a golden era of society. The term Edwardian became synonymous with style as the glamourous couple set up a rival court to Queen Victoria still in mourning for her beloved Albert. Edward and Alexandra headed the Marlborough Set, a glittering circle obsessed with opulent balls, country house weekends, garden parties, and international travel. Against a backdrop of Britain unknowingly hurtling toward the Great War which would forever alter society, the Royals endeavoured to maintain tradition preserving a rapidly changing way of life while embracing contemporary trends. So too, Edward’s son, King George V alongside Queen Mary continued collecting acquiring some of the items this major exhibition will display.

This is the first exhibit by the Royal Collection Trust to explore the Edwardian era. And KCWC will be among the first to view it! Without crowds, we will discover the fashion, jewellery, photography, books, sculpture, ceramics and paintings from the era’s celebrated craftsmen patronised by the Royals. Bringing together over 300 items – more than half on display for the first time – the show will explore in depth the lives and tastes of the Edwardian majesties who redefined splendour.

Guests, spouses and partners are welcome to this special evening event which includes a glass of English sparkling wine.
