Let’s discover a corner of Lambeth and its fascinating history! We invite you to cross the river and discover a part of London that lies on the other side of the neo-gothic towers of the Houses of Parliament, at the foot of Lambeth Palace.
Muriel Carre from LearnArtory will lead us to explore the industrial past of this part of London and the role of the beautifully restored church of St-Mary’s Lambeth that now hosts one of London’s secret gems: a museum that transports us to the early seventeenth century and tells the story of John Tradescant, royal gardener, traveller and collector at the origins of England’s first museum. More treasures await you: a collection showcasing Britain’s greatest gardeners and landscapers, a temporary exhibition*, and one of London’s best panoramas from the top of the old medieval tower! Not to mention a lovely shop full of summer gifts!
* The tempory exhibition will be ” Cecil Beaton’s Garden Party ” : Better known for his iconic fashion photography , Cecil Beaton was also an accomplished costume designer and artist. This exhibition is the first to explore the role of flowers and gardens in his work, from lavish floral installations created for parties with flowers from his gardens, to painted backdrops for photography , and flowers in the famous costumes of My Fair Lady.
