With its canals, trains, trams and the Underground, Paddington became a vast transport hub, home to Brunel’s GWR, ‘God’s Wonderful Railway’. Nearby, a messy laboratory led to the discovery of penicillin and today, the massive rail goods and maintenance yards for so long hidden from public view have been transformed with canal-side waterways, public art, plastic boats and three quirky but functional bridges.
