Yet again, KCWC Antiques and Design is indebted to our friends at the BADA Trust for allowing us to join their Zoom lecture. Woodchester Mansion is a unique Grade 1 listed Victorian Gothic house hidden in a beautiful Cotswold valley. Designed by Benjamin Bucknall, a young local architect, Woodchester reveals his talent for blending local traditional work in limestone with the ideas of the French architectural thinker Viollet-le-Duc. The building was started in 1857 with construction stopped in the mid 1860’s leaving floors and ceilings missing, walls unplastered, and windows unglazed. The result is a practical guide to the steps of country house construction.
