President's Letter

President's Message June 2020

Dear Members,

As I write this eNews to you, London has been under lockdown since March 23, 2020 for a total of 67 days. As we go forward we are still unsure when this lockdown will end. Our Prime Minister is targeting July for the resumption of certain businesses and activities, conditional on continued improvement in specified key virus-related metrics.

We find ourselves in unprecedented times. I wish you and your families good health and success in adhering to and coping successfully with all medically recommended measures that will allow us to get to the other side of this very serious crisis.

As a club we have tried to keep KCWC as active as is possible, albeit virtually from our homes. I hope you have taken advantage of some of the lectures and links that our amazing Activity Leaders have organised and shared with you. They have been creative and inspiring to say the least and have kept us all united. I personally have joined virtual walks and cooking lessons that the club has offered. I also wanted to note that we have had members join us on these lectures from the US, Canada and many other European cities during this lockdown. Having virtual activities has afforded us an unusual opportunity to have members attend activities while not physically in London - we have become truly international! This would not have been possible if our Activity Leaders had not stepped up to create this possibility during our lockdown. So a big thank you to our Activity Leaders from all of us at KCWC.

Since my last eNews the Nominating Committee has also been working very hard sourcing new members to join the Board. In accordance with the By-Laws, a two-thirds majority of voting members is required to ratify the motion. Listed below are the successful candidates:

President: Mary Narvell

Vice President: Theresa Klassen

Treasurer: Caroline Gervais

Secretary: Mary Sini

Activity Leader Liaison: Sandy Thwaites

Advertising Manager: Elisabetta Astolfi

eCommunications Manager: Karen Gustovich

Events Coordinator: Anne Koutsabeloulis

Marketing Strategy: Vivien Matthews

Membership Services: Maria Puleio

Newsletter Manager: Claudia Marchetti

The results of the eVote were as follows: 169 votes cast - 167 YES 2 NO

Congratulations and thank you for volunteering and stepping up to continue to add to the professionalism and ongoing viability of KCWC. We look forward to all meeting in person in October when we hope we will be allowed to gather as a group.

We also have a new Programmes Committee. Here are the volunteers whose service we appreciate:

Vivien Matthews

Wendy Male

Phyllia Chen

As I have mentioned throughout the year, the club has made a material investment in a new website for our members. It is almost finished and our plans are to officially launch the new website by mid June 2020. Our website designer, web.com, will be previewing the new look and function of www.kcwc.org.uk at our upcoming June meeting. The invitation to our first ever virtual GM will follow so please mark your diary for Thursday June 4 at 11:00am and join us.

Unfortunately our scheduled speaker Masha Gordon will not be presenting preferring to wait until she can do so in person in future. However we will be introducing our new Board members. I am confident they will serve KCWC well going forward. They bring a varied international and professional expertise to club governance and I am grateful for their willingness to serve.

The *Zoom* invitation to the virtual General Meeting on 4 June 11:00am will be sent shortly via eBlast!

I would like to encourage all of you to keep checking the website for new and upcoming activities. Some activity leaders are making plans for new bespoke activities in September.

Again, a big thank you to everyone for your continued support and thank you to all of our volunteers who have worked hard to keep KCWC going strong.

Stay safe and stay healthy everyone.

Theresa Klassen
