President's Letter June 2017
June is a special month as we celebrate the start of the summer, my favourite season. It is the perfect time to enjoy quintessential British events like Ascot, Henley and Wimbledon; to explore fun activities like outdoor cinema, art, music and food festivals; and to appreciate the lovely gardens and parks. I am pleased to say that kcwc will offer many options for those who wish to keep active during the warmer months. Please check our Website for more information on what our Activity Leaders have planned for our Members.
On Thursday 8 June, we will have the honour of welcoming the Duchess of Rutland as our guest speaker at our General Meeting at the Kensington Roof Gardens. The Duchess will speak about the fascinating history of Belvoir Castle, with a focus on how she has been painstakingly restoring its gardens to Capability Brown’s original plans that, until recently, were believed to have been lost for over 200 years.
It will also be your chance to vote in and welcome the new Executive Board members for 2017–2018. The June General Meeting is always a great time to thank the current Board for all they have done in creating wonderful memories and to look forward to all there is to come in the new Club year.
After the General Meeting, we will host our traditional annual luncheon with a delicious two-course meal accompanied by wine. During coffee and petit fours, we will enjoy a fashion show on the Summer Look by renowned department store Fenwick of Bond Street. Take time to delight in the beautiful gardens as we embrace the start of summer. Your friends are more than welcome to join as guests.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank some volunteers who have been supporting our Club throughout the year. Thank you to Gilly O’Sullivan who has been doing a stellar job at our General Meetings; to Susan Herring for her dedication to the Club over the past year; and to Saju Shillam for her support in the Potential Membership area. Many thanks also to Irina Bond who has volunteered to work on our Advertising and Member Benefits efforts.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday 8 June at the beautiful Kensington Roof Gardens.
