Following on from our Art History lecture on the photography of Lee Miller by Tate lecturer Cindy Polemis (see KCWC calendar on 1st October), and inspired by the most extensive retrospective of (Lee Miller's) photography yet staged in the UK (at The Tate Britain from 3 October), we visit Farleys House.

Lee Miller, Roland Penrose and their son Antony Penrose’s Sussex home, Farleys House, became a meeting place for some of the leading figures from the world of 20th century modern art: Pablo Picasso stayed in 1950, and Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Man Ray, Leonora Carrington and Dorothea Tanning visited from overseas whilst Eileen Agar, Kenneth Armitage, William Turnbull, John Craxton and Richard Hamilton formed the British contingent.

We will meet at Victoria station and take the train to Lewes. From there, taxis are available to take us to Farleys. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs approximately £25.00 each way.

Please book your own return train ticket (train time coming soon). We will share the cost of the taxi amongst ourselves on the day.

We will have a guided tour of the house, then will be free to visit the gardens and exhibitions. There is a cafe on the property where we can have lunch (your own tab) or feel free to bring your own.

Ticket cost includes tour only, all other expenditures will be at your own expense.
