Asian Arts & Global Cultures is very happy to announce a visit to the Samurai Exhibition at the British Museum with a special introduction by The Project Curator of the Samurai Exhibition Joe Nickols exclusively for our group.
Come discover the legendary warriors of Japan in a spectacular exhibition at the British Museum, right in the heart of London.
This curated experience delves into the history of the Samurai, Japan's elite warrior class who are as legendary as tea ceremonies and kimonos in the 'Land of the Rising Sun'.
Explore their code of honour, discipline and artistry through astonishing Samurai armour and helmets (Kabuto), beautifully forged swords (katanas) and intricate artworks like shimmering gold leaf folding silk screens (byobu). Marvel at the Hanging Scroll Paintings of 'Hokusai' in ink and colour with delicate calligraphy.
Imagine a world of indomitable warriors and discover the vision of the indomitable 'women' of these samurai households as you watch entranced by the intricately embroidered 'Red Silk Jacket' of wool and satin appliqué. This garment serves as a testament to the women's fighting squad back home, as they were responsible for putting out the many fires known as the 'flowers of Edo(Tokyo)' and ensuring the safety of their homes while the men were away fighting distant battles.
From battlefield tactics to refined arts such as poetry and tea ceremonies, the west has long been influenced by the Samurai codes of stylised duels (western movies), honour-bound warriors, moral codes rooted in duty and sacrifice, eroticism, Manga and comic books.
Don't miss this opportunity to an introduction so kindly offered by Joe Nickols- Project Curator of the Samurai exhibition exclusively for our group and discover for yourselves the most iconic #1of all medieval warriors - The Samurai.
