Berthe Morisot: Know Before You Go

26 April, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Unknown-1

This spring will see the first major UK exhibition of the renowned Impressionist, Berthe Morisot, at the Dulwich Gallery. It will bring together around 30 of Morisot’s most important works from international collections, many never seen before in the UK. They will reveal the artist as a trailblazer in addition to uncovering a previously untold connection between her work and 18th century culture.

A founding member of the Impressionist group, Berthe Morisot was known for her swiftly painted glimpses of contemporary life and intimate domestic scenes. She featured prominently in the Impressionist exhibitions defying social norms to become one of the movement’s most influential figures. The exhibition will draw on new research to trace the roots of her inspiration, revealing the ways in which Morisot engaged with her contemporaries, while also highlighting the originality of her artistic vision that ultimately set her apart from her predecessors.

We are very lucky to have Jacqueline Cockburn back to lead us on this lecture. Arrivals at the East India Club from 9:30 for a 10 am start with a break for coffee before our goal of completion by 12:15.
