Professor John Price is a world renown paediatrician, who has undertaken ground breaking research in children’s asthma. He is a remarkably entertaining and engaging speaker, who can make the most apparently difficult topics, accessible. He presents with humour and deep knowledge, a winning combination. He will tell us about some of his cases and speak with humanity, bringing them to life, as well as about his fascinating career. In 2011 he was awarded the British Paediatric Respiratory Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award. KCWC is honoured to have such a speaker to provide an insight into a subject very few of us are familiar with, which has improved and lengthened the life of thousands of children.

John Price was educated at Dulwich College and St John’s College Cambridge. After clinical training in London and Oxford and Research Fellowships at Guy’s Hospital Medical School and the Institute of Child Health, he was appointed Consultant Paediatrician at King’s College Hospital where he founded, and for over 20 years headed, the Paediatric Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Centre.

He has presented his research, lectured and examined in many parts of the world and has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. In 1992 he was made Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at King’s College London. He Chaired the Committees for the Royal College of Paediatrics and the European Respiratory Society that developed training programmes and accreditation in the UK and Europe for the emerging speciality of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. He has been an advisor to the Department of Health for the treatment of childhood asthma and chaired the Committee that introduced a Newborn Screening Programme for Cystic Fibrosis throughout England.
