Our Guest Speaker this month is Jon Sopel, the TV presenter, podcaster and best selling author. Alongside Emily Maitlis he launched what is now Britain’s most popular daily podcast, The News Agents. This came after a long career at the BBC, where in his last posting he was the corporation’s North America Editor, writing a trilogy of books about the US and Donald Trump’s first tumultuous term. His latest book, Strangeland, charts his return to a changed and turbulent Britain after 8 years in America. He writes a regular column for The Independent on US politics. Jon has reported from across the world and presented all the main news programmes at the BBC. He was the chief political correspondent and spent 4 years as the Paris Correspondent. He is the pro-chancellor of his alma mater, Southampton University, and acted as an ambassador for Hospice UK.
