As we look forward to the platinum jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth, we are reminded of another long reigning British sovereign, Queen Victoria. Cambridge was the site of a remarkable event on the 28th of June 1838 when it is recorded 15k of the town’s inhabitants, many of them poor, convened to celebrate her accession to the throne. Bands played, an orchestra performed, bunting was everywhere and food was abundant. Choirs sang, tobacco and ale were liberally distributed and, as we say, a “grand ol’ time was had by all.”
Join us to hear about this remarkable day in British history at the invitation of our friends at the BADA Friends Trust.
