The picture that the artist finished may have looked utterly unlike the object we now see in a museum or exhibition. We’ll look at what can happen when paintings are cut down, enlarged, over-painted with additional details or “improvements”, or scrubbed to within an inch of their lives. These and more are the surprises waiting for us in the history of any painting’s journey through the centuries to get to us.
This is our first LIVE lecture to take place post-lockdown! We look forward to seeing you again at the socially distanced East India Club to resume our Art History journey with Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe, one of our favourite lecturers.
The East India Club is a Covid-Safe Venue and masks should be worn at all times.
