Our Blue Badge Rachel Kolsky ‘s New Walk !
Often overlooked due to its more famous neighbour, Crystal Palace, Sydenham repays a visit with tales of many famous people who chose to live in this spacious, quiet suburb. Stories include the author of the classic Dictionary of Music, the childhood home of intrepid explorer Ernest Shackleton and Eleanor Marx who ironically bought a house on Jews’ Walk. Impressionist artist, Camille Pissarro, famously captured the growing suburb in iconic paintings and St. Christopher’s, the UK’s first palliative care hospice aligned to research was founded here by Dame Cicely Saunders.
Meeting Place: Outside Sydenham station, main entrance.
Ending Place: Near Penge West station – duration 2 hours
