22 January, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

As an introduction to the Great Mughals exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, KCWC welcomes back their lecturer Anne Haworth to help us explore the monumental creative output and far reaching culture of the Golden Age of the Mughal Court. The reigns of famed Emperors Akbar, Jahangir, and the builder of the Taj Mahal Shah Jahan, saw a flowering of opulence and grandeur. Be it monumental architectural edifices or exquisite miniature paintings, gem encrusted jewels or magnificent royal gifts, few empires or cultures epitomised luxury to the degree of the Mughal emperors (1560-1660). The articles we will explore through Anne’s illustrated talk will reveal not only their decorative excellence but how artistic creativity was a key tool to symbolise the Mughal Empire’s power, wealth, and expansive trade networks. Join us as we revel in Indian jewels, textiles, temples, and miniatures that evoke a golden age of luxury and will transport you to spice laden courts of mystery and intrique.

Please contact the organiser, Mary Narvell, for information as to ticket availability to the V and A museum exhibit not included in this lecture fee.
