The Heritage Of Gilbert And Sullivan – Talk By Mr Bernard Lockett

19 January, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

G&S Talk

For nearly 150 years, Gilbert and Sullivan (G&S) productions have influenced popular culture in the English-speaking world. Promising to be both informative and entertaining, this presentation will include an overview of some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operas in the context of the social and political atmosphere of their time. Our speaker will highlight the satire and background of many of the works and wryly compare them to today’s world.

G&S is recognized as an essential part of this country’s cultural heritage and the origin of today’s musical theatre and our lecturer, Mr Bernard Lockett, is an expert on the topic.  A life-long G&S enthusiast, he has broadcast on BBC Radio and TV, as well as authored several books on the topic. He currently serves as a Trustee of The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. A web link will be provided so you can enjoy G&S music and show excerpts before and during the talk.

KCWC’s Classical Music & Opera and British History are delighted to co-list this event.
