Another New Walk of our blue Guide Rachel Kolsky , Turnham Green, site of an important 1642 Civil War battle, provides the perfect entry to explore the world’s first garden suburb, Bedford Park, laid out from 1875. With a church and houses by Norman Shaw its leafy streets attracted artists and writers including WB Yeats, Edgar Wallace who wrote King Kong and Lucian Pissarro whose view from the garden was immortalised by his father Camille. Also spotted in the neighbourhood are a wonderful history mural, changing contemporary art and a sculpture by Conrad Shawcross inspired by Yeats.
