Sandringham – A Zoom Tea Time Talk with Nicholas Merchant

4 December @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

sandringham-hall-1511814035

KCWC Antiques and BADA Friends invite you to Part Two of our series on Private royal residences. Appropriate to the festive season, our speaker Nicholas Merchant is featuring Sandringham where the royals traditionally spend Christmas.

The site of many a party when the Marlborough set decamped north to shoot, Sandringham is an Edwardian pile purchased by the Prince of Wales before he became King Edward VII. The estate houses many properties not least the small York Cottage where King George V and Queen Mary resided, favouring it to the larger mansion Queen Alexandra occupied on the death of her beloved “Bertie.” The late Diana, Princess of Wales grew up nearby before the family inherited Althorp and today, the Prince and Princess of Wales occupy Anmer Hall on the estate. Indeed, but for the sad association of the deaths of both George V and VI at Sandringham, the vast property has always been where the royals came to feast and frolic. Join us to learn its colourful history.

The lecture will be recorded and available as a link to registrants unable to attend on the broadcast day.
