The Wallace Collection in London occupies Hertford House in Manchester Square, the former townhouse of the Seymour family, Marquesses of Hertford. It is named after Sir Richard Wallace, who built the extensive collection, along with the Marquesses of Hertford, in the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection features fine and decorative arts from the 15th to the 19th centuries with important holdings of French 18th-century paintings, furniture, arms and armour, porcelain and Old Master paintings.

We shall be visiting, guided by Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe, major names of 17th Century northern paintings, like Rubens, van Dyck, Frans Hals and Rembrandt, as well as taking advantage of the rarely crowded rooms to pay closer attention to the small scale but wonderfully detailed paintings by the so-called petits mâitres, painters like Netscher and Metsu.

There is also an exhibition “Portraits of Dogs: From Gainsborough to Hockney” which runs until 15 October. You are welcome to book, directly with The Wallace Collection, a visit to this separate exhibition following your one hour tour with KCWC. The price for this exhibition is not included in the Wallace Collection visit fee.
